14. 20 Years worth it.! 

After the success of the Independence Day (2016), studio paid writer Dean Devlin a large sum of money to write a script for a sequel. Dean Devlin did complete a script but he kept it to himself only and gave the money back to studio. He felt the story was not good enough as compared to the original. It was after 15 years, that Devlin met up with director Roland Emmerich to try again for the earlier discussed sequel. They both felt that they had cracked a perfect story for sequel.

13. The numbers game! 

The movie had a budget of whopping $200 million, which is $125 million more than the original film. Independence Day (1996) had a budget of $75 million and made $817 million on the box-office. It was the highest grossing movie of 1996.

12. Will Smith demanded a huge sum!

Will Smith was in talks to reprise his role as Captain Steven Hiller, but producers refused to meet his salary demand of $50 million for two sequels. It was in June 2013 that filmmakers confirmed Will Smith would not be returning for this sequel.

5. Different actor for Same character =Fans Outrage! 

President Whitmore’s daughter, played by Mae Whitman, in Independence Day (1996) was replaced by Maika Monroe. The announcement brought much outrage among the fans on social media. Most notably Anna Kendrick, a close friend of Whitman, spoke out against the recasting on Twitter. It was rumoured that produced believed Mae Whitman was not “Conventionally pretty” to reprise her role. Mae Whitman, who has had a very solid acting career including her lead role in surprise comedy hit The DUFF (2015), was mostly silent on this matter.

4. The score of Resurgence! 

David Arnold, composer of the score to the original film, was not asked to score for the sequel. He said in Twitter that since the studio owns his themes for the first film and new composers could use them in this film.

3. Liam Hemsworth and Charlotte Gainsbourg! 

Liam Hemsworth (plays Jake Morrison) earlier turned down the role of Jerôme in Nymphomaniac: Vol. I (2013) and Vol. II (2013), in which he would have played the love interest of Charlotte Gainsbourg. They both would eventually go on to appear together in this film.

1. “Independence Day: Resurgence” A Worthy Sequel.?! 

Soon after the original film, a sequel was in development. There was a discussion regarding the scripts that whether a sequel could be possible at all because of  the fact that hive mind alien race portrayed in original film seemed to be rendered extinct. There was one option which included editing the parts of original film in order to allow for liberties taken in the proposed sequel. A leak in 1996 scripts for a sequel included adapted alien technology that allowed Dylan Hiller to lead a group facing the aliens head on in space, and President Whitmore still suffering from his mind link with the alien.

22. George Lucas wanted Yoda to get an Oscar nomination!  

George Lucas spent thousands of dollars on advertising Oscar campaign for Frank Oz’s performance as Yoda. George tried to get him an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor. The campaign failed as it was felt that Yoda wasn’t an actor but a puppeteer. George Lucas thought of this as an unfair decision against Frank Oz, who actually didn’t mind at all.

21. Han Solo weild the lightsaber and he was no Jedi knight!  

Han Solo weilds a lightsaber to cut open the tauntaun’s belly. This makes him the only non-jedi ever to weild a lightsaber in entire original Trilogy. Han Solo uses the trick to save Luke and keep him warm in the freezing temperature as he cut open the belly of a tauntaun. It is actually an Indian trick. According to a true story, an Indian hunter killed a bear just before a deadly blizzard. He cut open bear’s stomach and stayed inside warm and safe until the storm stopped.

20. There were shoes and potato in asteroid scene! 

In the original cut of the asteroid scene, there was a shoe placed as asteroid. The rumor was that George Lucas asked the special effects team to redo the scene many times. One of the crew member got annoyed and threw in his shoe. This error was corrected later in remastered version. There is also a potato placed as asteroid. It is seen just as Millennium Falcon first enters the field, and two asteroid gets past of Falcon, a third one appears. This is the potato.

18. Darth Vader’s meditation chamber was hyperbaric! 

Darth Vader is shown meditating in his meditation chamber. The chamber is said to be a hyperbaric chamber which charges the interior air to greater than one atmospheric pressure. This allows Vader to breath normally without his helmet. All of this was not originally presented in the film. The film features Vader in meditation chamber putting up his mask only for a second.

17. Carbon Freezing chamber fight scene was shot without Darth Vader’s helmet! 

The iconic fight scene in carbon freezing chamber tends to focus on Luke rather than Darth Vader. The helmet made it difficult for Bob Anderson (Vader’s body double) to breath. Many shots were filmed without helmet which is why scene mainly focuses on Luke. There is only one scene of Darth Vader and C3PO together. They are only seen together onscreen in Carbon Freezing Chamber scene.
