Steven Spielberg was not the first choice to direct The BFG (2016). John Madden was going to direct the film but rather he decided to focus on The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel (2015) instead. Madden remained involved in the production process as an executive producer of this film.

We don’t see a lot of female or child led roles in Steven Spielberg’s films. This time The BFG (2016) has both a female protagonist and child protagonist. Director Mark Osborne revealed that the book Little Prince deeply affected him on a personal level. It was given to him by his wife years ago, back when they were dating.
