Steven Spielberg was not the first choice to direct The BFG (2016). John Madden was going to direct the film but rather he decided to focus on The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel (2015) instead. Madden remained involved in the production process as an executive producer of this film.

3. The BFG is different from other Spielberg film!

We don’t see a lot of female or child led roles in Steven Spielberg’s films. This time The BFG (2016) has both a female protagonist and child protagonist. The Color Purple (1985) was the last film to feature a female protagonist and A. I. Artificial Intelligence (2001) was the last film to feature a child protagonist in Steven Spielberg directed film.
