18. Director Stanley Kubrick considered both actor Robert De Niro and Robin Williams for the role of Jack Torrance but decided against both of them. Kubrick did not think Robert De Niro would suit the role after watching his performance in Taxi Driver (1976), as he deemed De Niro not psychotic enough for the role. He did not think Robin Williams would suit the role after watching his performance on Mork & Mindy (1978), as he deemed him too psychotic for the role.

Originally, the plastic bag over Samara's head failed to subdue her, leading her killer to repeatedly strike her in the head with a large rock (which can be seen lying on the ground in some shots of the well). The rock only weakened Samara, and finally her killer resorted to slamming her head against the side of the well before dumping her in.

Sinister (2012)  is a horror genre movie directed by Scott Derrickson and stars Ethan Hawke, Juliet Rylance, Fred Dalton Thompson, and James Ransone in the lead roles.

Sinister (2012) tells the story of a true-crime writer, who finds a cache of 8mm home movies films that suggest the murder he is currently researching is the work of a serial killer whose career dates back to the 1960s.
