14. 20 Years worth it.! 

After the success of the Independence Day (2016), studio paid writer Dean Devlin a large sum of money to write a script for a sequel. Dean Devlin did complete a script but he kept it to himself only and gave the money back to studio. He felt the story was not good enough as compared to the original. It was after 15 years, that Devlin met up with director Roland Emmerich to try again for the earlier discussed sequel. They both felt that they had cracked a perfect story for sequel.

13. The numbers game! 

The movie had a budget of whopping $200 million, which is $125 million more than the original film. Independence Day (1996) had a budget of $75 million and made $817 million on the box-office. It was the highest grossing movie of 1996.

12. Will Smith demanded a huge sum!

Will Smith was in talks to reprise his role as Captain Steven Hiller, but producers refused to meet his salary demand of $50 million for two sequels. It was in June 2013 that filmmakers confirmed Will Smith would not be returning for this sequel.

Jessie Usher will play Will Smith’s characters’ (Col. Hiller) step son in this film. Liam Hemsworth will play Bill Pullman’s characters’ (President Whitmore) son-in-law.

Due to the deaths of actors from the original film James Rebhorn and Robert Loggia, who played Albert Nimziki and General William Grey, their characters won’t be reprised in this sequel.

5. Different actor for Same character =Fans Outrage! 

President Whitmore’s daughter, played by Mae Whitman, in Independence Day (1996) was replaced by Maika Monroe. The announcement brought much outrage among the fans on social media. Most notably Anna Kendrick, a close friend of Whitman, spoke out against the recasting on Twitter. It was rumoured that produced believed Mae Whitman was not “Conventionally pretty” to reprise her role. Mae Whitman, who has had a very solid acting career including her lead role in surprise comedy hit The DUFF (2015), was mostly silent on this matter.

4. The score of Resurgence! 

David Arnold, composer of the score to the original film, was not asked to score for the sequel. He said in Twitter that since the studio owns his themes for the first film and new composers could use them in this film.

3. Liam Hemsworth and Charlotte Gainsbourg! 

Liam Hemsworth (plays Jake Morrison) earlier turned down the role of Jerôme in Nymphomaniac: Vol. I (2013) and Vol. II (2013), in which he would have played the love interest of Charlotte Gainsbourg. They both would eventually go on to appear together in this film.

2. Since Will Smith was demanding so just Kill his Character!

There is a theory about death of Col. Hiller (Will Smith) after the Independence Day (1996). It goes as while test piloting the ESD’s first alien hybrid fighter, an unknown malfunction causes his untimely death. He is survived by his wife Jasmine and son Dylan.

1. “Independence Day: Resurgence” A Worthy Sequel.?! 

Soon after the original film, a sequel was in development. There was a discussion regarding the scripts that whether a sequel could be possible at all because of  the fact that hive mind alien race portrayed in original film seemed to be rendered extinct. There was one option which included editing the parts of original film in order to allow for liberties taken in the proposed sequel. A leak in 1996 scripts for a sequel included adapted alien technology that allowed Dylan Hiller to lead a group facing the aliens head on in space, and President Whitmore still suffering from his mind link with the alien.
