In real life, Boston Globe broke the story of abuse scandal in 2002. National Catholic Reporter had already been reporting about the abuse within the church for 17 years.

Michael Keaton was worried about the Boston accent of the character he plays. He was surprised when he watched a video of real Walter Robinson and came to know that he doesn’t have that much of a Boston accent. When Keaton met Robinson in person, he said to him: ” You know you really do not have that much of a Boston accent.”
