16. Real reports visited the set and were astonished!

Director Tom McCarthy said that they built a large set to depict many of the Boston Globe offices where parts of the story takes place. When the reporters depicted in the movie first visited the set, they gravitated to the desks where they had been sitting during the writing of the “Spotlight” piece. Even many of them started to re-arrange the items on their desks to the way they had been at the time.

15. Real Walter Robinson was surprised of  his portrayal by Michael Keaton!

The real Walter Robinson said on Michael Keaton “It is like watching yourself in a mirror, yet having no control of the mirror image.” He also said: “My persona has been hijacked. If Michael Keaton robbed a bank, the police would quickly have me in handcuffs”.

12. During the presentation of the Academy Award for Best Picture presenter Sean Penn said, "And the Oscar goes to... Who gave this son of a bitch his green card? Birdman!" He was making a reference to the director Alejandro González Iñárritu, who is from Mexico. Several media outlets found Penn's comment offensive.
