5. Character Valka was originally written as the villain, but this idea was dropped in later drafts. Also, Drago was intended to appear in the third film How to Train Your Dragon 3 (2018), but was bumped up to the second one.

4. Originally, in How To Train Your Dragon 2 (2014) Gobber was the one who was meant to be killed by the brainwashed Toothless. But when Guillermo del Toro read the draft, he suggested that Stoick should be killed instead, as it would have a bigger impact.

3. During the final battle when Dragon toothless challenges the alpha, right after Toothless shoots a fireball you can hear part of Godzilla’s roar coming from the alpha.

2. Villain Drago’s Bewilderbeast loses its left tusk, just as Drago also lost his left arm to a dragon, this is similar to a situation in the first film, where Hiccup loses his left leg, as a parallel to Toothless losing his left tail fin.

1. According to the movie’s official website, Hiccup is meant to be around 6 feet tall. This is something he shares in common with his voice actor Jay Baruchel, who’s known for his tall, slender build.
