9 Movies that have Won 7+ Oscars.

Academy Awards aka Oscars are considered to be the mightiest award in the Hollywood. It is given on a yearly basis in different categories.
The first Oscars ceremony was held on 16th may 1929 at a private dinner at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel, with an audience of about 270 people. 86 years have passed since then and as of 2014, a total of 2809 Oscars have been given away.

Every year a ceremony is held to give away the awards. Oscars have many trivia and facts.

Here, I have put together a list of movies (total 9 only) that have won more than 7 Oscars in the same year under different categories.

1. Titanic (1997) – It was Directed by James Cameron and acted by Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet. Titanic was nominated in 14 category and won 11 Oscars.
Best Picture, Best Sound, Best Director, Best Cinematography and 7 more Oscars.

2. The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (2003) – It was the final movie of Lord of the Rings saga. Peter Jackson directed all 3 movies of this saga. The Return of King was nominated in 11 category and won all of them (11 Oscars). Best Picture, Best director, Best Screenplay, Best visual effects and 7 more.

3. The English Patient (1996) – This movie was directed by Anthony Minghella and acted by Ralph Fiennes and Juliette Binoche. The English Patient was nominated under 12 category and awarded with 9 Oscars. Best Picture, Best Actress in a supporting role, Best Editing, Best Director, and 5 more.

4. The Last Emperor (1987) – Like the title says, it is the story of last emperor of China. It was directed by Bernardo Bertolucci. It was nominated under 9 category and won all 9 Oscars. Best Picture, Best Director, Best music(original score), Best Costume Design and 5 more.

5. Gandhi (1982) – This movie was about,  the lawyer who became the famed leader of the Indian revolts against the British rule through his philosophy of nonviolent protest ( Mohandas K. Gandhi ). Gandhi was directed by Richard Attenborough and acted by Ben Kingsley as Gandhi. Gandhi received Oscar nomination under 11 category and Won 8 Oscars.
Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Director, Best Art direction and 4 more.

6. Amadeus (1984) – The incredible story of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, told by his peer and secret rival Antonio Salieri – now confined to an insane asylum. It was Directed by Milos Forman and acted by F. Murray Abraham and Tom Hulce. Amadeus received nomination in 11 categories and Won 8 Oscars including Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Writing, Best Makeup and 4 more.

7. Cabaret (1972) –   A female girlie club entertainer in Weimar Republic era Berlin romances two men while the Nazi Party rises to power around them. It was directed by Bob Fosse. Cabaret was nominated under 10 categories and Won 8 Oscars including Best Actress, Best Actor, Best Director, Best cinematography and 4 more. Has the distinction of winning the most Oscars (8) not one of which included the Best Picture Oscar. It lost to The Godfather (1972).

8. Slumdog Millionaire (2008) – A Mumbai teen who grew up in the slums, becomes a contestant on the Indian version of “Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?” He is arrested under suspicion of cheating, and while being interrogated, events from his life history are shown which explain why he knows the answers.
This Movie was directed by Danny Boyle and starred Dev Patel, Freida Pinto. Slumdog Millionaire received nomination under 10 categories and Won 8 Oscars which included Best motion Picture of the year, Best director, Best Screenplay, Best Original Song and 4 more.

9. Ben-Hur (1959) –  It is a story of a Jewish prince who is betrayed and sent into slavery by a Roman friend, he regains his freedom and comes back for revenge. This movie was Directed by William Wyler and starred Charlton Heston and Hugh Griffith. Ben-Hur received nomination under 12 categories and won 11 Oscars including Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Director, Best special effects and 7 more.
